About Janet

Janet Freeman is a writer living in northern Colorado. She has over fifteen years of experience writing for radio, newspapers, magazines, and Web-based venues on topics ranging from healthy living to contemporary American Indian issues. Clients include Yahoo! Shine, AOLGreenDaily, CelsiasTribal College Journal and other publications. She has also been the recipient of several awards for her fiction, including a Million Writers Award in 2009. In 2012, a chapbook, “A Man Worthy of Your Attention,” written by Janet and illustrated by contemporary artist Dana Ellyn will be published by RopeWalk Press. Currently, Janet is at work on a novel and collection of short stories.

Janet holds an MFA in creative writing from George Mason University, and has been writer-in-residence at the Julia and David White Artists’ Colony, Dorset Colony House, and at Centrum. She has served as Membership Director at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, and as an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College. In 2007 she founded Rough Copy, an online journal of creative arts.

Janet is also an avid photographer—the picture on the right was taken in Loris, South Carolina.
